Thanksgiving Visitors!

We are so excited about our visitors next week! Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie Miranda & Unky Joshua will all be here to hang out with the little dude and eat lots of (free range, sustainably farmed...know your food people!!:) turkey as well as cookies, cheeseballs, pies, dressing, etc... Can't wait! It has been coooooold this week but the weather report for next week says 50's and sunny, let's hope that stays true.

I am going to make an honest effort to update the ol blog more often, I've also messed with the settings so hopefully it's not such a pain to view anymore. Let me know if it's easier for you or if it stays the same.

I started hearing a buzz about "Messy Madness" from other Portland mommas, so when I saw tickets for sale, I pounced. Messy? And art? Yes, please!! And it was something else.The basic idea: put down a tarp, strip down your baby, and place many colorful globs of (non-toxic, don't worry) paint along the tarp. At some point also introduce shaving cream, and glitter (not such a good idea, really. We'll never see the end of the glitter). What a wonderful and incredible mess!! It took Ike a couple minutes and a few tastes to figure out just what was going on, and then he went for it. So much giggling, lots of babbling, and at the end he really was the messiest baby there. It was an extremely fun, stimulating, and exhausting way to spend a Sunday morning. Now to recreate it in my own backyard and you'll know where to find us on the weekends!

We have been having a lot of fun with food around here! Ike will taste pretty much anything and is a pretty good eater. He loves fruit, kiwi is a big hit. He also enjoys sweet potatoes and loves to gum on tortillas. He likes peanut butter toast and last night we mashed up banana with quinoa and cinnamon and smeared that on toast-very well received. We are letting him hold a lot of food and feed himself to the best of his ability so he can discover different feels, tastes, and textures. Fun times with food around here :)

Ikey has amazing hair. It goes where it wants, when it wants and will stay in whatever crazy style it's chosen all day. No amount of brushing will tame this wave!

Summer in Spring

We are experiencing some uncharacteristic weather here in Portland, sunny clear skies and toasty warm in May! It is lovely. Today was 82 and breezy, and it looks like the warm weather is here to stay (yippee!). For reference, last year on Cinco de Mayo we went to the Kennedy School for lunch, and sat shivering next to an outdoor fireplace. This is better :) So to celebrate we busted out our $2 off season Goodwill purchase--such a steal! (The suit's not bad either!)

6 months!

Ikey is 6 months old, how did that happen?! I just had my birthday and my parents are probably thinking "Sarah is 34 years old, how did that happen?!" Children definitely put your life into a time warp, it's crazy how quickly we got here. We took Ike for his 6 month pediatrician visit this morning, he weighs in at 20 lbs 6 oz and 29 3/4" long, continuing his arch off of the heights chart. Here's a picture of him helping Dr. Russak listen to his heart :)

The Wonderful World of Blogging

I've done it! I've entered the bloggy world! That's what you do when you're a new mom, right? I expect this forum to exist as a place where I can upload photos and videos of our marvelous Ikey for the enjoyment of family and friends that are too far away. Facebook is good for some but not as many as I'd like to share, so this will be a good place for those. I hope you enjoy :)
